What you send us
The contact form asks for your name, email address and message, and optionally your company and phone number. It is delivered to us as an email so we can reply. It is not stored in a database on this site.
Event submissions.If you submit an event to our calendar, we receive the event details and the organiser’s name, email, phone and website. This is stored in our content system, and the listing is published on the site — which is what submitting it is for. Contact details are used to reach you about the listing.
There are no reader accounts on this site, so there is nothing to log in to and no profile held about you.
What is collected automatically
Our hosting and content delivery services record standard request information — pages requested, approximate location derived from your IP address, browser and device type, and the referring page. We use Google Analytics to understand which articles readers find useful and how people move through the site. Analytics data is retained for 14 months.
Cookies and third parties
Three third-party services can set cookies or receive data when you visit:
- Google Analytics — measures site usage. It sets cookies named
_gaand_ga_*. We have configured it so that advertising and ad-personalisation signals are switched off; it is used for measurement only. - Broadstreet — delivers the advertising on this site and may set cookies to count how often an ad has been shown.
- YouTube— only on articles containing a video. We use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced player, which does not set tracking cookies unless you start the video. Opening the page does still tell Google your IP address and browser type, because the player is loaded from their servers. Articles without a video do not load it at all.
Some parts of the site remember things in your own browser rather than sending them anywhere — whether you have liked an event, a draft of an event submission in progress, and whether you have closed the advertising bar at the foot of the page, which we remember for an hour so it does not keep reappearing. That stays on your device, and clearing your browser storage clears it.
What we do not do
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted or behavioural advertising. Advertising here is sold as placements on the page: an advertiser buys a position, and we do not build audience profiles or hand reader data to advertisers.
The mailing list is not built from this website. We do not add you to anything because you read an article.
Sharing
We share information with the service providers that run the site — hosting, content delivery, email delivery, and the services named above — and where the law requires it. Event listings submitted for publication are, by their nature, published.
Your choices
You can set your browser to refuse or delete cookies, though parts of the site may not behave as intended. Google offers a browser add-on that opts you out of Google Analytics on every site that uses it. If you would like to know what we hold about you, or want it corrected or removed, contact us and we will deal with it.
Children
This site is published for agricultural professionals and is not directed at children.
Changes
Any updated version will be posted on this page with a new date at the top.
