Wine grape growers in Minnesota are being caught for a study to help prevent and combat black rot disease in vineyards.

Madeline Thenhaus, a graduate student with the University of Minnesota Grape Breeding and Enology Program, reached out via the Minnesota Wine & Grape Alliance stating that the was looking to sample black rot disease as part of a project to improve management.

“This activity would happen some time in late June or early July when black rot becomes the most prominent. I would only need brief guidance on where to walk, and will be respectful when pursuing your vineyard,” Thenhaus said. “Alternatively, if you would prefer to collect samples yourself, I can provide step-by-step instructions for sample collection and cover shipping costs. Please let me know if you are willing to support this project or if you have any questions. Additional information will be shared with interested participants prior to the sampling.”
