Long Island, NY is home to some of the most elegant and intriguing wines to be made in the United States today. With serious investment in viticulture beginning in the 1970s, growers and wine makers on Long Island have been experimenting with grape varieties and refining their wines for decades. With its maritime climate that benefits from the warming Gulf Stream, it’s no surprise that Long Island has embraced the traditional Bordeaux grapes of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc among others. Spectacular examples of traditional-method Sparkling wines (think Champagne style), oak-aged reds, lively and crisp whites, and seductive dessert wines are easy to find.
